Design and Packaging

By admin | December 21, 2011

No matter what you are selling online, from edge protectors in plastic to cardboard edge protectors or custom packaging solutions or even services, you need to have a good web design. The site needs to be easy to navigate with clear and consistent formatting. It should be easy to find the products and the information about how those items are used so that someone looking for similar solutions realizes that you have what they are seeking. It is the useful knowledge on the site that will keep the search engine ranks up high, and the higher those rates are the better the chance of your site being seen.

Good web design is a lot more then an eye catching website.  Restrained use of “gimmicky” elements can do a lot to make the business look more stable and trustworthy.  Getting someone to pay you money means gaining their trust, and you have to allow the website to make that sale for you, so you better make it good. This means having a great feel for the target audience, knowing the mental attitude that people who buy the type of product you are selling will have, and tailoring your site to appeal to it.  If this is something you do not have a grasp of then you need to get professional help to ensure that you appeal to the right type of people.

This applies to any product you sell.  Edge protectors are going to be more of an appeal between businesses then to the general public. You will need to be extra professional in how you present the cardboard edge protectors you sell, listing why they are superior to other custom packaging solutions someone might find on the Internet. Remember, you are dealing with someone who is already running a business and who likely knows what they need to protect the goods they sell.  The more information you can give them about your product and how it is different the better. Keeping the web design professional and appealing is a key factor to making this type of business successful, but it is not limited to just this specific item.  Anything that appeals to a business, like shelving or similar goods, needs to have similar professional appeal.

Only if you have a target audience that is in the “tweens” should you look for cute web design. In fact the more edgy your design tends to be the greater risk you run of making a misstep.  It is a fine line between new and fresh verses over done and wacked out.  Remember this when you are looking for a designer and try to find someone who understands exactly what it is your target audience is looking for themselves. If you and the designer have a good connection then the outcome will help you become more successful.  This is why it is important to shop around and find the web designer who understands your business, your goals, and who you are selling to.
